EFT – The world’s most popular Energy Psychology therapy

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is the most widely known and used form of Energy Psychology. Energy Psychology was created in 1980 when psychologist and psychotherapist Dr. Roger Callahan discovered by accident that tapping on meridian points significantly reduces the fear and anxiety associated with phobias. Dr Callahan soon-after developed the first ever Energy Psychology modality called Thought Field Therapy (TFT).

Subsequently, Gary Craig, a Stanford-trained engineer, simplified TFT and he named this simplification E.F.T. or Emotional Freedom Technique. The genius of EFT was that it was much easier to learn, teach, use, and apply than its predecessor TFT, yet it was just as effective and beneficial.

For this reason EFT has become much more popular that TFT. Indeed EFT is more popular and widespread than any other Energy Psychology therapy, method or technique. EFT, is also known as “Tapping”, due to the tapping motion of the fingers which gently tap on meridian acupoints used in acupuncture. In fact the EFT Tapping technique is used all over the world by physicians and therapists and laypeople alike. It is estimated that over ten million people worldwide have used EFT to resolve an array of issues. Given its widespread use and that EFT, TFT and various other Energy Psychology modalities have been in use for almost 40 years and that many research studies have confirmed the efficacy of the EFT and meridian tapping therapies, we can confidently affirm that EFT has stood the test of time and the test of practical and clinical application.
